Transformational leadership is precisely what we call as "leadership for change".Guru Ghasidas ji was one of those transformational leaders and his ideas are still transforming minds of those who learn them.18 th of December is birth anniversary of Guru Ghasidas ji and it is also a time to revisit the vision he had spread and evaluate ourselves how much change we have brought in the society and ourselves so as to make our society more equal and peaceful.
To understand the importance of leadership of Guru Ghasidas ji , it is necessary to know the context which motivated him to take a new path.
Consider a situation -Society is highly stratified and hierarchical ,and caste identities are ruling the roost.Occupational identities are strongly attached with castes.People who belong to the lower strata are also the most depressed and dejected and are engaged in the most disrespect full of jobs and occupations,like leather tanning,human waste disposal etc.It is not clear whether the caste has lead to the occupations or the dirty occupations has lead them to lowest place in caste hierarchy.Whatever be the fact these people live an ostracized life in the society.They are untouchables,temples and public places are unallowed to them,they are humiliated and often abused and punished for wrongs done by others.
This psychological feeling of being disrespect full and untouchable has been internalised by then as the feeling of inferiority and worthlessness.They live unhealthily and without education .Bad habits like drinking and meat eating n living in filth ,are only the superficial effect of the underlying wound.
In such situation of hopelessness,a man rises and tries to understand the reasons underneath the bad state of conditions of people of his community.He not only found the medicine for the disease caught by his community but also for the greater epidemic that has engulfed the society in entirety.
This person was Guru Ghasidas baba who's vision and painstaking hard work has shown a new path of hope to millions of depressed classes of Chhattisgarh.Baba has also opened the eyes of the other castes and spread the message that "when God has not differentiate among its humans who are we to differentiate.Also when there is only only God that is truth "Satnam" than how can we live in false beliefs created to dominate others.Baba as a true teacher brought light of knowledge to the people of Chhattisgarh who are basically innocent and honest but are often misguided by superstitions and untruth.
This university, dedicated to Guru Ghasidas ji, is a vehicle to propagate the same idea that true knowledge is transforming and people should take leadership to bring new knowledge and disseminate the knowledge thus bring effective change in the society.
